Hotta Masamori

Hotta Masamori (Japanese堀 田 正盛; * January 16, 1609, † June 8, 1651 ), was in the first half of the seventeenth century, counselor and confidant of two Shoguns of the Edo period in Japan.

Journey

Hotta Masamori, which is also known as Kaga no Kami, was the son of Hotta Masayoshi. He served two shoguns, Hidetada first. He was abandoned along with five other samurai the interests of the Bakufu to advise. From this group then went as a permanent institution of the " Elders " ( Rokunin shū since 1662: wakadoshiyori (若 年 寄) ) shōgunalen the government out. He had as Minister Shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu to the great influence.

The lands with which he was invested, have been enlarged over the years, more and more, starting in 1635 with Kawagoe ( Musashi Province, 26,000 koku ), then three years later Matsumoto ( Shinano Province, 95,000 koku ). In 1642 he became the Daimyo of Sakura ( province Shimousa, in today's Chiba Prefecture ), which brought him an income of 145,000 koku.

Out of loyalty to the Shogun he committed suicide along with Abe Shigetsugu, Masanobu Uchida, Saegusa Moriyoshi, among other things, that he could serve his Lord in posterity. His grave is located in Nikko.

His son was Masatoshi ( 1651-84 ), not to be confused with Masatoshi (堀 田 正 利; † 1629, 59- year).

Popular culture

As a character played by Takeshi Maya he comes in the movie Shogun Iemitsu no Ranshin - Gekitotsu (English: " The Shadow of the Shogun" ) from 1989 before.
