Musashi Province

Musashi (Japanese武 蔵 国, Musashi no kuni ) or sino japanese bushu (武 州) was an old province of Japan. Musashi is now occupied by the prefectures Tōkyō and Saitama, a small corner fell to the Kanagawa Prefecture, mainly Kawasaki and Yokohama cities. Musashi bordered on Kai Provinces, Kozuke, Sagami, Shimousa, Shimotsuke and Shinano.

Musashi was the largest province of the Kanto region. She had her old capital ( Kokufu ) in modern Fuchū ( an alternative name for a provincial capital ) to Tokyo, the provincial temples ( kokubunji ) was at today's same-named town.

1590 replaced Tokugawa Ieyasu, the area around the Tokyo Bay against his old, located further west territories and began strategically located Edo with its castle build. Edo was then his headquarters before the battle of Sekigahara, and Edo was named after the Edo period, the dominant city in Japan. After the Meiji Restoration, Edo seat of Tennō and was renamed Tokyo.

Musashi has in the name Tōbu (东 武, " East Musashi " ) and Seibu (西武, " west Musashi " ) survived, namely, in the name of the private railway companies Tōbu tetsudō or Seibu tetsudō. The name of the sobu Main Line (総 武 本 线) points out that these are the province Shimousa or Soshu (総 州) connects with Musashi.
