Hida Province

The Hida Province (Japanese飞 騨 国, traditional:飞 驒 国Hida no kuni ) was an old province of Japan in the region Tosando Japan, now the northern part of Gifu Prefecture.

The old provincial capital ( Kokufu ) was probably in the neighborhood Kokufu of Takayama. However, no archaeological remains were discovered.

Hidas vast forests were an important source of lumber and metals for other provinces. There was a strong inland waterways of Hida down by Mino and Owari.

1585 Kanamori Nagachika, one of the generals of Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi later was sent to conquer Hida and his Lord was. He fought in the Battle of Sekigahara on the side of Tokugawa Ieyasu and his heirs kept the province through the Edo period.
