Sado Province

Sado (Japanese佐渡 国; Sado no kuni ) was an old province of Japan. The area is now part of Niigata Prefecture. She lay on the Sado Island off the coast of the province of Echigo.

Sado was one of the most remote areas of Japan, nobles and aristocrats were often sent into exile to Sado when they lost favor with the rulers.
