Rikuzen Province
Rikuzen (Japanese陆 前 国, Rikuzen no kuni, dt " front Mutsu " ) was a province of Japan during the early Meiji period.
Their territory was approximately the Miyagi prefecture today, without the south with the districts of Miyagi Watari -gun, Igu -gun and Katta -gun, and the cities of Kakuda and Shiroishi. Furthermore, it included the southeastern part of the Iwate Prefecture with the county Kesen -gun, the cities of Rikuzentakata, Ofunato and the southern part of Kamaishi.
In the 1872 census, 534,609 inhabitants were counted for Rikuzen.
History
On January 19, 1869 ( Meiji 1/12/7 ) were the provinces Rikuzen, Iwashiro, Iwaki and Rikuchu separated from the province of Mutsu (Eng. " Central Mutsu ").
