The Egyptian House of Representatives (Arabic مجلس النواب, Egyptian- Arabic Majlis el- Nowwab ) until 2012 People's Assembly (Arabic مجلس الشعب Majlis ash -sha ʿ b, DMG maǧlis aš - ša ʿ b ), in the capital Cairo is loud Egyptian Constitution, the House Egyptian bicameral and has more legislative powers than the Egyptian upper house, the Shura Council. The House of Representatives consists of 508 deputies, of which 498 are elected by the people. The remaining 10 seats are assigned by the Head of State.

The last elections to the People's Assembly, the result of which is shown below, took place in winter 2011 /12. However, the House of Representatives was dissolved on 15 June 2012 due to a judgment of the Supreme Constitutional Court. The judges ruled some articles of the electoral law were unconstitutional, because it was the political parties possible to nominate candidates for the third of the seats, which are entitled under the Constitution independent candidates. Thus, the equality of the vote was injured. Thus, the composition of the entire lower chamber was illegal and therefore new elections necessary.

Composition

In February 2012, the mandates were as follows:

To the President of the People's Assembly, Saad al - Katatni was elected. His predecessor had been Ahmed Fathi Sorour December 1990; he was re-elected in December 2000 for a third term.
