Hranice (Cheb District)

Hranice ( German Rossbach ) is a town in Bohemia and Vogtland is located ten kilometers north of Aš in the northernmost part of the Okres Cheb, Carlsbad Region. It is the westernmost city in the Czech Republic. The city Hranice, the Upper Franconian neighboring Regnitzlosau, Free State of Bavaria and the obervogtländische community Eichigt, Free State of Saxony (border crossing Hranice - Ebmath ) are residents of the Vogtland border triangle Bohemia - Bavaria ( Franconia) - Saxony. History

The foundation is dated to the 12th century. The oldest mention of Rossbach dates from the year 1318. The city belonged to the ecclesiastical administration of the city court. The original village was located on the trade route between Eger and Plauen. Already in 1413 we reported that the population mostly lived by weaving. 1778 is made ​​by hand woven clothes and valuable muslins inlaid with patterns. 1808, the first textile factory was established, which produced primarily for export. In the 19th century Rossbach took a leading position in the textile industry in the region. The residents who could no longer support the agriculture, found work in the textile industry.

The conservative population refused successfully against the connection to the road network. It was feared that the military would place more vulnerable. This Rossbach lost the economic union, which ultimately led to the decline of the industry.

1885, the site was finally connected via the local train Asch - Rossbach on the railway network. The line was later extended until after Adorf, Saxony. In 1904, the first telephone was put into operation in 1911 and the site connected to the power grid.

In 1882 the city of Franz Josef I was raised to the market town, city was Hranice 1964. Administratively, the town belonged to the Habsburg monarchy during the judicial district or county Asch Asch.

Demographics

The community grew after the First World War up to 700 houses and 4283 inhabitants. After the expulsion of Germans after World War II, the population dropped to 2300.
