History

Until the 16th century, the area was heavily wooded and sparsely populated accordingly, but this changed after the Wallachian colonization. The town was founded in 1588 by a group of Vlachs from the now defunct place Ústie nad Oravou and was the castle Arwa subject. The population engaged in agriculture ( potato and cereal cultivation ) and livestock, besides also there were some crafts that were mainly oriented to agriculture. The climatic conditions were difficult, however, so it always came back to emigration to Lower Hungary, in the 19th and 20th century in North America. 1739 were the plague 222 victims. In 1975, the city was incorporated Vaňovka (Hungarian Vanyovka ).
