Huachacalla

Huachacalla is a village in the department of Oruro in the highlands of South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

Huachacalla is the central place of the district ( bolivian: Municipio) Huachacalla and administrative center of the province of Litoral and is located on the Bolivian Altiplano at Río Sabaya. Huachacalla lies at an altitude of 3,749 m above sea level on the eastern slope of a mountain massif of two quaternary layer volcanoes, the Pacha Kkollu Quimsa Misa ( 4702 m) in the north- west and the Inca Camacho ( 4792 m) in the southeast.

Geography

The climate is semiarid and has a short rainy season in summer, the annual rainfall is low 200 mm. The average annual temperature is 5.5 ° C without significant variations during the year, but with considerable daily fluctuations in temperature and frequent freeze-thaw cycles.

The vegetation in the area Huachacalla corresponds to the semi-arid Puna. It is treeless and is composed mainly of thorn bushes, grasses, succulents and cushion plants. It is economically used as a llama, alpaca and sheep pasture.

Huachacalla lies at a distance of 161 kilometers of road south-west of Oruro, the capital of the department.

From Oruro from the unpaved highway Ruta 12 via Toledo and Ancaravi after Huachacalla and on about Pisiga on the Chilean border to Colchane in Chile. A few kilometers east of the city crossed the Ruta 12 the Río Sabaya flowing Twenty kilometers south in the Salar de Coipasa.
