Huarina

Huarina is a village in the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

Huarina is the central place of the Canton Huarina district ( bolivian: Municipio) Achacachi in the province Omasuyos. The village lies at an altitude of 3843 m on the southern slopes of Lake Titicaca.

Geography

Huarina located on the Bolivian Altiplano on the eastern shore of Lake Titicaca, between the Andes mountain ranges, the Cordillera Occidental and the Cordillera Central in the west to the east. The climate in the area Huarina is derived from the altitude on the Altiplano and proximity to large water surface of Lake Titicaca, which mitigates the temperature fluctuations. Due to the altitude and for much of the year with cloudy periods the region enjoys a typical diurnal climate in which the mean temperature fluctuations during the day be more pronounced than during all seasons.

Huarina lies at a distance of 70 kilometers of road north-west of La Paz, the capital of the department of the same name.

From La Paz the highway Ruta 2 on El Alto leads in a northwesterly direction to Huarina and from there to Copacabana and Khasani.

The population of the region belongs to especially the indigenous people of the Aymara. In the 2001 census of Canton Huarina had 6,559 inhabitants.
