Huawei Symantec

Huawei Symantec Technologies Co. Ltd. (Chinese华为 赛门铁克 科技 有限公司, Pinyin Huawei Sàiméntiěkè Keji Yǒuxiàn Gongsi ) is a developer, manufacturer and provider of network security, storage and computing solutions. It is headquartered in Chengdu, China. Huawei Symantec was founded as a joint venture between Huawei and Symantec. Huawei initially held 51 % of the company, while Symantec held 49%. In November 2011, Huawei has completely taken over and it paid 530 million U.S. dollars for Symantec's participation to the joint venture.

John W. Thompson, president and CEO of Symantec, is the chairman of Huawei Symantec. Ren Zhengfei, CEO and founder of Huawei, is the CEO of Huawei Symantec.

Technological convergence, R & D

Huawei Symantec owns more than 300 patents in storage and network security area, and around 30 of them have been accepted as a formal technological standards. Huawei Symantec takes part in various standardization bodies, which partially the Chair or Deputy Chair is clothed. More than 50% of employees are engaged in research and development in research labs in Beijing, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, China, and also in India.

History

  • 2000: Huawei launches research and development in the field of safety engineering; Symantec is a provider of antivirus and security software
  • 2004: Huawei launches research and development of storage technology
  • 2005: Symantec acquires Veritas Software, makers of Information Lifecycle Management Software
  • 2007 (May): Huawei and Symantec signs MOU for the establishment of a joint venture to provide end - to-end solutions in the converged network, security, storage and computing technologies.
  • 2008 (February): Huawei Symantec is founded.
