Hubert Sattler

Hubert Sattler ( born September 9, 1844 in Salzburg, † 15 November 1928 in Leipzig ) was an Austrian ophthalmologist. He was professor of ophthalmology at various universities, including from 1891 to 1920 at the University of Leipzig, and has been dealing with cancers of the eye and its anatomy.

Life

Hubert Sattler was born in 1844 as the son of the landscape painter Hubert Sattler in Salzburg. His grandfather was Johann Michael Sattler, the creator of saddlery panorama. He received his doctorate in 1869 after studying medicine, he graduated from 1863 to 1868 at the University of Vienna, and was then in Vienna under Theodor Billroth and Carl Ferdinand von Arlt worked as a assistant or assistant. According to a study journey that led him in 1873, among other things to Prague, Breslau, Berlin, Utrecht, London and Paris, he was in 1876 awarded the doctorate at the University of Vienna for the subject Ophthalmology and has already appointed a full professor at the University of Giessen, a year later.

In Giessen, he also met his wife, a daughter of the chemist Heinrich Will. Their son, Carl Hubert Sattler followed the interests of his father, and later became professor of ophthalmology at the University of Königsberg. In 1879, Hubert Sattler moved to the University of Erlangen and seven years later to the University of Prague. In 1891 he as successor to Ernst Adolf Coccius Professor and Director of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Leipzig, where he worked until 1920 and served in the years 1896/1897, 1905/1906 and 1913/1914 as dean of the medical faculty was. Work

Hubert Sattler, who in 1895 was appointed to the Privy medical officer and was scientifically active until almost the end of his, devoted himself to the oncological diseases of the eye and the optic nerve as well as the normal and pathological anatomy of the eye. He also developed a simplified procedure for the surgical treatment of myopia. From 1888, he was co-editor of Albrecht von Graefe 's Archive for ophthalmology.
