Hugh Henry

Hugh Henry, ( born February 12, 1952 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labour Party.

Life

Henry attended the St Mirin 's Academy in Paisley and studied at the University of Glasgow and at Jordanhill College of Education in Glasgow. He first worked as an accountant at IBM, then moved into teacher training to finally from 1979 as a clerk in the areas of social assistance and care to be worked later. Henry is married and the father of two daughters and a son. He is a member of the Trade Union Transport and General Workers ' Union.

Political career

1984 Henry was first elected to the City Council of Renfrew and confirmed at the elections in 1988 and 1992. 1995 Henry was a member of the Regional Council of Renfrewshire and sat the District of West Renfrewshire prior to 1998. In the first Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 Henry first came to elections at the national level. He applied for the direct mandate of the constituency of Paisley and South could achieve before the candidate SNP with a clear lead. In November 2001, he was appointed Deputy Secretary for Health and Care, then in May 2002 for Social Justice, and finally in November 2002 of Justice. In the parliamentary elections in 2003 Henry defended his mandate, despite vocal losses. He retained his position as Deputy Secretary of State for Justice until November 2006 when he was appointed Secretary of State for Education and young people. In the 2007 parliamentary elections Henry could increase its share of the vote and defended his position .. In 2010 he was elected to the Scottish Politician of the Year. As part of the reform constituency in 2011 Henry's constituency Paisley South was dissolved. In the parliamentary elections in 2011, he applied for this reason to the direct mandate of the newly created constituency of Renfrewshire South. He won the mandate before the SNP candidate. At the beginning of the legislature candidate Henry to the position of Speaker of Parliament, but lost the SNP politician Tricia Marwick.
