Hugh Mackay, 14th Lord Reay

Hugh William Mackay, 14th Lord Reay, Baron Mackay ( born July 19, 1937 † 10 May 2013) was a British politician ( Conservative Party ), member of the House of Lords and Member of the European Parliament.

Life

Lord Reay was the only son of Aeneas Alexander Mackay, 13th Lord Reay. He married his first wife, Tessa, was born the Honourable Annabel Terese Fraser, a daughter of Simon Fraser, 15th Lord Lovat ( after the divorce she married Henry Keswick, chairman of Jardine Matheson to Holdings). From the first marriage two sons and a daughter were born. His second wife, he married Victoria Isabella, youngest daughter of John Warrender, 2nd Baron Bruntisfield with whom he has two daughters.

The heir apparent is his eldest son, the bank manager Simon Æneas Mackay, Master of Reay ( born March 20, 1965). From his marriage to Mia Ruulio also the next heir, Alexander Shimi Mark Mackay emerged (born 21 April 2010).

He attended Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford.

Policy

Lord Reay in 1963 inherited his late father. With the title of baron and membership in the upper house was connected. 1973 to 1979 he was the European Parliament (the members were at that time still elected by the national parliaments ).

1991 appointed him Prime Minister John Major as Parliamentary Under-Secretary ind the Trade and Industry Ministry. After the general election in 1992 he resigned from the ministry. With the passing of the House of Lords Act 1999, he lost along with all other Erbpeers ( Hereditary peers) the automatic seat in the House of Lords. However, he was chosen as one of 92 selected Erbpeers that remained after the reform in the House.
