Hugo Hovenkamp

Hermannus Hugo Hovenkamp ( born October 5, 1950 in Groningen, Netherlands ) is a retired Dutch footballer who was considered one of the best left-back his time.

Hovenkamp began his career in his native city at FC Groningen, where he worked until 1975. After that he played until 1983 when AZ Alkmaar, with whom he once won the Dutch championship three times and the KNVB Cup in that time. In 1981, he was also in the finals of the UEFA Cup, but which went against Ipswich Town lost. After his stint at Alkmaar, he went to Austria in order to play there two more years for FC Wacker Innsbruck before he finally ended his career.

Between 1977 and 1983, denied Hovenkamp 31 caps for the Dutch national football team, where he scored two goals. He took part in Italy at the European Football Championship 1980. This was his only major tournament he played after he incurred before the Football World Cup 1978 a meniscus injury and therefore had to cancel participation.

Currently working as a scout for Hovenkamp AZ Alkmaar.
