Hugo Ruf (musician)

Hugo Ruf ( born April 9, 1925 in Schramberg Württemberg; † 1 November 1999 Brauweiler near Cologne) was a German harpsichordist and music professor.

Training

Reputation studied from 1946 since it was founded at the University of Music Freiburg harpsichord and historical keyboard instruments with Fritz Neumeyer and performance practice of early music with Gustav Scheck, the first director of the university.

Subsequent study visits also led him to Munich and Paris.

Musikhochschule in Cologne

Reputation taught since 1967 harpsichord at the Cologne Musikhochschule. In 1971 he was appointed full professor. At the same time, he headed the Department of Ancient Music. He is one of the most important publishers of baroque chamber music. His catalog of works at the German National Library has over 400 locations strong. In 1984 he was awarded the German Record Critics' Award for his recording of harpsichord sonatas 3 by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach ( EMI).
