Huguette Tourangeau
Huguette Tourangeau ( born August 12, 1938 in Montreal ) is a French-Canadian opera singer ( alto).
Career
Huguette Tourangeau was trained at the Conservatory of Quebec, among others, Richard Bonynge, who was her most important supporter. He participated in performances as a partner of Joan Sutherland and also in some of his opera recordings.
Tourangeau 1964 won the singing competition "Auditions of the Air " in New York. Together with the couple Bonygne / Sutherland she stepped in Seattle as Mallika in " Lakmé " in London as Urbain in " Les huguenots " in San Francisco as Elisabetta in " Maria Stuarda ", Adalgisa in "Norma" and as Prince Orlofsky in " The Bat " on.
She was also heard in Vancouver, Boston, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Mexico City, Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia and Santa Fe. In 1973 she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as Nicklausse in " Les Contes d' Hoffmann " with Placido Domingo as a partner. She was primarily an interpreter of the French and of the bel canto repertoire.
Her husband Barry Thompson was from 1975-1978 Head of the opera in Vancouver.
