Huichol [ wit͡ʃo ː l] or Wixárika Niukiyari is an indigenous language in northern Mexico, spoken by the ethnicity of the Huichol, who see themselves as Wixártari ( singular: Wixárika ) denote ( 'people' ). It belongs to the southern branch of the Uto-Aztecan languages, and is most closely related to the language of Cora.

It is often said the name Huichol so can be derived from a foreign designation neighboring tribes for the Wixártari and mean ' healer ', as they were commonly known as particularly good shamans and know knowledgeable botanist and physician among the tribes. The French ethnologist, León Diguet, claimed the name so can be derived from the language of her Guachichil and beudete - ' Cultivator of the fields'. According to a shaman named Wixártari Yauxali means their proper name ' Those who dress in honor of Our Ancestors '.
