Huila Department

The Departamento de Huila is a province in south-western Colombia. It is surrounded by the provinces of Meta and Caquetá in the east of Cauca and Tolima and in the West.

The Magdalena River, Colombia's largest electricity, takes its starting point in the province of Huila. Some of the larger cities are in its valley.

The economy is based on agriculture and cattle farming. There are cultivated rice, sugar cane, bananas, tobacco, coffee and sorghum. The industry plays a minor role and specializes in arts and crafts, ceramics and hats. Huila has oil and gas reserves.

Tourist interest is the Archeological Park San Agustín.
