Humbert I, Count of Savoy

Humbert I of Savoy (called Humbert with white hands; * to 1003, † 1048) was the son of Amadeus Count of Belley (?). Humbert is regarded as the progenitor of the House of Savoy. His father Amadeus should have been born around 976 and are descended from a Celto -Roman family.

He married Ansilia, daughter of the Count of the Valais. In 1033 he recognized immediately the supremacy of Emperor Conrad II of the kingdom of Burgundy, this gave him rights in Maurienne and Chablais (regions in today's Haute-Savoie, France).

From the marriage with Ansilia sprang four children:

  • Amadeus I († 1051 ), who became his successor
  • Aymon († 1054 ) was Prince-Bishop of the county Valais in Sion
