Humberto Moreira

Political career

In his native city of Saltillo, he was mayor from 2003 to 2005. On 25 September 2005 he was elected governor of the state of Coahuila. He exercised the office from 1 December 2005 to 3 January 2011.

As the successor of Beatriz Paredes Rangel, he was elected president of the PRI in 2011. He held this post for several months, from March 4 to December 2, 2011, from. 23 August 2011 it was announced that had increased the debt of the state by 34 billion pesos during his tenure as governor. He was accused that he had this expenditure is in the amount of about 2 billion euros in counterfeit bills. On 2 December 2011, he was forced to resign as president of the PRI.

Family

Moreira married three times and has several children. His eldest son, José Eduardo Moreira, was killed on 3 October 2012. It was presumed to be a revenge attack for the death of nephew of Miguel Treviño, a leader of the Los Zetas.

His older brother Ruben Moreira was elected governor of the state of Coahuila for a six-year period from December 1, 2011 to November 30, 2017.
