The community Hunathing vestra is in the northwest of Iceland at the Húnaflói Bay in the region Norðurland vestra.

Northwest of the community Hunathing vestra is the community Strandabyggð, Húnavatn east, south Borgarbyggð, west Dalabyggð.

History

The area had risen economically rich shrimp fishing grounds in Húnaflói. For years, there 's the issue of rural-urban migration (see Demographics ).

The community was established in 1998 by the merger of seven rural communities: Staðarhreppur, Fremri - Torfustaðahreppur, Ytri - Torfustaðahreppur, Hvammstangahreppur, Kirkjuhvammshreppur, Þverárhreppur and Þorkelshólshreppur. On 1 January 2012, the westernmost country Bær community was incorporated.
