Huy (hills)

Geography

The Huy lies in the northern part of the district of Harz, about 10 km north- west of Halberstadt Dardesheim between the west and the east Schwanebeck, principally in the territory of the municipality of the same name Huy; small southern parts lie in the city of Halberstadt. The small towns like Badersleben, Anderbeck, Dingelstedt and Eilenstedt ( north; Huy ) and Sargstedt, Aspenstedt and Athenstedt ( south; Halberstadt ) are, with the exception of Huy- Neinstedt, William Hall, Mönchhai and Röderhof (all about Huy ) around the ridge, but rich in part to its slopes. The Huy extends in an east-west direction at about 12 km in length and in north-south direction over approximately 3 km wide. The highest elevations in the Huy is the book mountain.

Geology and landscape

The Huy consists mainly of sandstone and limestone. Partly it is called a narrow saddle, partly as a broad saddle. The Huywald located on the ridge is one of the largest almost pure beech forests in Central Europe.

History

In Huy Huysburg the Benedictine monastery was founded in 1080, secularized in 1804 and refounded in 1972.

Between 1882 and 1887 several holes in Huy were conducted approximately five kilometers from Anderbeck. This large deposits were found on potash and rock salt at shallow depths. This led to the founding of the union Wilhelmshall to Anderbeck who quarried here until 1926 salts and caused a temporary upswing in Huy region. Especially for the removal of potassium salts and the railway line Jerxheim - Dedeleben - Nienhagen originated with a 1891 built railway siding of Anderbeck to the potash mines. The railway line, which was also called Huybahn, led along the eastern and northern Huyrand. Your last paragraph Dedeleben - Nienhagen was closed down in 2001.

Near Schwanebeck a cement plant was in 1897, which took advantage of a limestone quarry in Huy and was also connected to the railway line.

Quarrying in 1910 glacial potholes were discovered.

Reserves

(2.43 km ² CDDA-Nr. 163648; ; reported 1961) in Huy Nature Reserve Herrenberg and Foothills is located in Huy. Almost the entire mountain range with its peripheral areas as conservation area Huy ( CDDA-Nr. 163648; 54.92 km ² in 1997 ) were reported. In large parts of the countryside, the two-piece Fauna- Flora-Habitat Area Huy is north Halberstadt ( FFH-Nr. 4031-301; 20.05 km ²), the geographically congruent with the bird sanctuary Huy north Halberstadt ( VSG-Nr. 4031-301, 20.05 km ²).

Tourism

In Huy are the Daneilshöhle that Huysburg that Paul head waiting and waiting Sargstedter. Today, the Huy is often used for hiking, biking and horseback riding.

Traffic

The Huy is right in the " angle" between the west extending federal highway 244 ( between Helmstedt and Wernigerode ) and the south extending federal highway 79 ( between Wolfenbüttel and Halberstadt ). Due to the range of hills or just pass this lead the Romanesque Road and the German Avenues Route. North past the Huy was earlier, by Badersleben, Anderbeck, Dingelstedt and Eilenstedt, the railway line Jerxheim - Nienhagen, consisted of the Eilenstedt in connection to the light railway train Strube.
