Hyphessobrycon heterorhabdus

The Dreibandsalmler ( Hyphesso heterorhabdus; Greek heteros - different rhabdus - underscore) is a freshwater fish from the middle and lower Amazon. It is kept as an aquarium fish and has been introduced for this purpose in 1910 for the first time to Germany. At first he was often confused with the Flaggensalmler ( Hemigrammus ulreyi ), which is why he is also called "Wrong Ulrey ".

Features

The stretched and laterally strongly flattened body of the Dreibandsalmlers can reach a total length of four inches. However, the males remain smaller than the somewhat fuller females. The back is brown, the sides are yellow-brown color. Olive color to silver shiny is the belly. A three-color longitudinal ligament extends from the gill cover to the root of the tail fin. The uppermost of the three binding is red, the middle white to gold shiny and the bottom stripe is colored jet black. The upper half of the iris is a bright shade of red The fins are colorless or slightly yellowish and end partly in white lace.

Reproduction
