Composition

The song begins with a sound collage. The first instrument sets after 40 seconds, the bass guitar, followed by two more guitars; it plays a pentatonic one riff. The bass drum starts after 73 seconds, and the main part of the song begins after 90 seconds.

The lyrics of the song is minimalistic. It mainly consists of the two sentences " I do not need to sell my soul / He ' s already in me" and the song title and repeated during the song.

The music magazine Q chose the song at number 32 of the 100 best songs of all time. New Musical Express placed I Wanna Be Adored on place 17 of its list of the 50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever.

The song is part of the soundtrack of the films Welcome to Sarajevo, The Man Who Loved Yngve and hooligans.
