The Iberg at Willingen in Hesse, Waldeck- Frankenberg is a 720.5 m above sea level. NN high mountain in Upland, the northeast foothills of the Rothaargebirge.

Geography

Location

The Iberg is in the northwest of North Hesse in Diemelsee Nature Park just east of the Willinger core city. As a north- western neighbor of Orenbergs (702 m ), it rises due east and west of the Ittertals its cash Aarbach with the lying beyond the brook Lüerberg (713 m ) and its southern slopes Eideler mountain ( 700 m).

South of the summit apart from areas near and east slopes are forested Iberg the Orenbergschanzen in the transition region to Orenberg on Willinger outskirts.

Nature Spatial allocation

The Iberg heard in the main physiographic unit group Süder Bergland ( number 33) in the main unit Rothaargebirge ( with Sauerland ) ( 333) and in the subunit Upland ( 333.9 ) for natural space affairs Upland ( 333.90 ).

Geology and Mining

In Iberg are four roof slate benches of two to 20 meters thickness. The shale and limestone formation, which includes the benches, 400 million years old. The concession for mining of slate in Iberg was granted in 1859. Mining began in 1863 and was discontinued in 1971. Today there is a visitor mine, the slate quarry Christine.
