ICC Test Championship

The ICC Test Championship is an international cricket competition organized by the International Cricket Council for the ten teams with Test status. The competition is run as a ranking, all international tests which are held as part of the regular fixtures detected. Here, the home or away status is not considered.

Basic principle

After each discharged test series the teams involved get assigned a score, which is determined by a mathematical formula based on the strength of the teams and the series result. The points are weighted averaged over a period of three years. The resulting ' credit rating ' is used to create the rankings.

Has won The score for a team that a series is greater than the current score of the team, so their score increases by the victory. Conversely behaves this for the losing team in the series. A tie means that the worse rated team benefits that must be better rated team suffered losses in their rating. An ' average ' team that loses and gains evenly and has a mix of stronger and weaker opponents, in this system has a rating of about 100 points.

The ICC provides a scepter as a trophy to the team that has the highest rating. The trophy is passed when a new team moving up to the top de rankings.

Since 20 August 2012, the South African Cricket Team leads the rankings.

Trophy

Since 2001, the table first gets the so-called ICC Test Championship mace. It has a value of £ 30,000.

ICC World Test Championship

The CEO of the ICC, Haroon Lorgat, had proposed in July 2010 to let unsubscribe a tournament between the top four teams at the World Cup in cricket test every four years. The first proposal included that this tournament instead of the ICC Champions Trophy would be held in 2013 in England. This plan, however, was postponed because looked bound by existing contracts for the broadcasting rights for the ICC. Since the first edition of the tournament in the future planning of the tournament calendar in 2017 year was committed.
