Idarkopfturm

The Idarkopfturm in the Hunsrück part Idarwald in Rhineland-Palatinate is a 28.50 m high observation tower on the Idarkopf ( 745.7 m above sea level. NHN ).

Geographical location

The Idarkopfturm is in the nature park Saar -Hunsrück about 200 meters northwest from the summit of Idarkopfs, located between the southeastern Stipshausen ( Birkenfeld ) and the northwestern high Scheid (Landkreis Bernkastel -Wittlich ) rises. History and Description

The tower was built in 1980 as a wooden structure has a triangular floor plan and has 150 steps. It replaced the dilapidated over time become precursor tower, which was built in 1909 as an artillery observation post and had to be climbed over a wooden ladder.
