Ä°dil Biret

Idil Biret ( born November 21, 1941 in Ankara) is a Turkish pianist.

Life

Biret received her musical education at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he was a pupil of Nadia Boulanger. She completed her studies at age 15 with prices starting at three and continued her training with Alfred Cortot and Wilhelm Kempff had until his death as a consultant.

Since she was 17 years İdil Biret played in the major international concert halls and among other things, with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Dresden Staatskapelle, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

She played among others under the direction of Hermann Scherchen, Pierre Monteux, Erich Leinsdorf, Rudolf Kempe, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Aaron Copland, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Charles Mackerras, Jean Fournet, Moshe Atzmon and Hiroyuki Iwaki. Idil Biret also gave concerts at the Festival of Berlin, Montreal, Istanbul, Dubrovnik, Montpellier, Nohant, Royan and Athens. She played with Yehudi Menuhin Beethoven sonatas in concert and performed with Wilhelm Kempff on Mozart's Concerto for Two Pianos.

In 1960 it was dedicated by the composer Jean Françaix his Sonate pour piano.

1995 İdil Biret recordings of the complete works of Chopin with the " Grand Prix du Disque Frédéric Chopin ", the special jury prize in Poland were excellent. In the same year she won the recordings of the sonatas of Boulez the Diapason d'Or Award in France; these were selected as the best recordings of the year by the newspaper Le Monde.

1997 İdil Biret has played in Germany, all solo piano works by Brahms in five concerts.

Idil Biret has recorded the Etudes (Book 1 and 2) by György Ligeti and the piano arrangement of Stravinsky Ballets " Firebird" for Naxos. Both recordings were released in early 2003.
