History

The beginnings

Idlewild was founded in December 1995 at a student party in Edinburgh. Here met Roddy Woomble (* August 13, 1976 ) and Colin Newton (born 18 April 1977) together. Similar social background and an almost identical taste in music ( Pavement, Sonic Youth, REM, dEUS, Bob Dylan, Superchunk, etc.) could both take the decision to start a band. Later in the evening them Rod Jones (born 3 December 1976) was presented with this and his friend Phil Scanlon (* May 21, 1976 ) they founded Idlewild.

In January of the following year they played their first gig and recorded the first songs which were well received in the local press. Queen of the Troubled Teens one of the well-established in October of songs was released in March of next year at the label Human Condition Records.

Things are looking up

In 1997, Phil left the band to devote more attention to his studies, he now lives in Detroit and is successfully working as a chemist. Bob Fairfoull ( born August 6 1976) took over his position on the bass guitar.

With a later call from DJ Steve Lamacq, everything about him unknown band pass at him, began the ascent. A first appearance in London was followed. After the recordings of the EP captain and great responses to the notice published on Fierce Panda Records Single Chandelier they followed the call of the major labels and signed to Food Records / EMI.

Warnings / Promises

Their next album, Warnings / Promises was published on 11 April 2005. The album falls through a quieter compared to the previous albums sound on. Cooperation with Parlophone ended in November 2005.

Make Another World / Post- Electric Blues

After Roddy Woomble 2006 solo album brought out, was released in March 2007, a new album of the band called Make Another World on the indie label Sequel, a sub- division of Sanctuary Records. Since Sanctuary was bought by Universal Music Group in 2007 and thus virtually ceased to exist, the band was back there without a record deal. We then decided to offer the fans the next album as a pre-order and thus the recordings to partly finance. The fans, the Post Electric Blues had pre-ordered, received in June 2009 their CD sent ( with an exclusive pre-order bonus track ) and were mentioned by name as thanks in the booklet. In October 2009, the album then appeared regularly in the trade, this time on the indie label Cooking Vinyl.
