Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna

Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna ( German: Sport camaraderie ), often abbreviated as IFK, is a Swedish Sports Confederation. The organization includes in its 175 clubs in Sweden and Finland, where eight clubs are members of the Federation, more than 100,000 members.

History

On February 1, 1895 Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna in Stockholm was founded by two students Louis Zettersten and Pehr Ehnemark. Quick developed in other Swedish cities branches of IFK Stockholm. Since the organization is increasingly difficult designed by the rapid growth has been founded with a central body above IFK Stockholm in 1901 and continued the departments in the other cities as independent associations.

IFK established at a time when there were few national sports federations, the first national championships. Some of these still exist today, most of these were discontinued, however, as in the individual sports independent national championships had been introduced. For example, it was until the mid- 1920s the Kamratmästerskapen in football who were hired permanently after a short reintroduction during the Second World War in 1945, while there are national championships in bowling today.
