ÍF Fuglafjørður

ÍF Fuglafjørður, full name Ítróttafelag Fuglafjarðar ( " sports club of Fuglafjørður " ), abbreviated ÍF, is a Faroese football club based in Fuglafjørður on the island Eysturoy.

History

After the establishment on 25 March 1946, the club celebrated the greatest success with the championship in 1979. Moreover ÍF was five times in the Cup finals (1975, 1982, 1987, 2005 and 2011), but could never win. Since 2008, the club plays in the Effodeildin and was in 2010 with fourth place for the first time to qualify for the European Cup.

Women's Soccer

The women's team of ÍF occupied as a founding member of the 1 Deild beginning usually one of the rear seats. 1989 and 1990, then get two third places in a row, before 1991, so far the only league title could be achieved. The disillusionment followed the next season with relegation to the second division. In 1993 they had to rise again, also the cup final was reached in this and in the following year. These were lost with 1:2 and 2:4 after extra B36 Tórshavn. In 1996, the team moved back from the first division, only in 2011 was the second place in the second division to return to the first Deild be achieved. 2014 ÍF graduated with Víkingur Gøta together for new club ÍF / Víkingur.
