Igor Cvitanović

Igor Cvitanović ( born November 1, 1970 in Osijek, SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Croatian football player.

The striker played in the highest league of Yugoslavia, Croatia, Spain and Japan, and was four times champion, five times Cup winner and top scorer. It is equipped with 126 goals scored record scorer in the first HNL in Croatia.

Career

From youth from NK Osijek to arise Cvitanović was first used by Dinamo Zagreb in the season 1989 /90, the first Yugoslav league. With the establishment of the first HNL he played a season on loan at Varteks Varaždin before he was from 1992 to 1997 with Dinamo Zagreb three times Croatian champion and cup winner and 1996 and 1997 scorer in Croatia. During the winter break 1997/98 he went for one and a half years for Spanish side Real Sociedad, but where he could not prevail against Darko Kovačević and Ricardo Sá Pinto himself. Back in Zagreb he could contribute to a further championship and another Cup victory before it ran aground in the calendar year 2002 for the Japanese football club Shimizu S-Pulse. Decay he left his career at his hometown club finally NK Osijek.

In the Croatian national Cvitanović debuted on 22 October 1992 in Zagreb in a friendly match against Mexico. In 1996, he stood at the finals of the European Championship in the squad, but was not used. In the final round of the 1998 World Cup, he was first also in the squad, but was sent after a dispute with head coach Miroslav Blažević home. Overall, he played in the national team 27 times, scoring four goals.
