Imre Varadi

Imre Varadi ( born July 8, 1959 in Paddington, London ) is a former English footballer. The son of a Hungarian father and an Italian mother spent his most successful period as a striker for Newcastle United and Sheffield Wednesday and was overall because of its frequent association changes - no longer than three years, he usually spent at a club - as a migrant bird in English football. He stood in the squad of Leeds United in 1992 won the English championship, but there was too rare for a champion medal used.

Sports career

Imre Varadi, who was usually called by his teammates only "Ray", played first division club FC at Letchworth, about 60 kilometers north of his birthplace London area, where he noticed the manager of Sheffield United, Harry Haslam in spring 1978. In April 1978, 18 -year-olds took the " Blades" under contract and this completed within the 1978/79 season ten league games in which in turn get four goals to him. Before the end of the season he moved in March 1979 in the highest English league to Everton. There, however, the hoped leap did not come until the end of the 1980/81 season he played just 26 league games. His rare highlights was here the winning goal in January 1981 in the FA Cup match against local rivals Liverpool. End of August 1981, eventually moved him back a major league deeper to Newcastle United.

In the North East of England Varadi succeeded the sporty gap and in the course of the next two years, he was a reliable scorer. He surpassed this the 18 league goals during the 1981/82 season the following year, with 21 championship goals. The anticipated rise was the " Magpies " but with 5th place in the season 1982/83 denied, whereupon Varadi in the summer of 1983 for £ 150,000 to Sheffield - now United's rivals Sheffield Wednesday - returned. The decision to sell was very controversial among supporters of Newcastle United, especially Varadi had to leave in a way, against his will the club.

In the second division rivals Varadi had little difficulties in adapting. He scored 17 league goals in the 1983/84 season, was so accurate most of the club shooter and thus contributed no small way to winning the vice-championship and promotion to the First Division at. In the team of coach Howard Wilkinson who competes fast Varadi was also in the following season 1984/85 with a total of 21 competitive game hits a fixed size. More disappointing it was for club and fans that the " Player of the Year " in the summer of 1985 rejected a contract extension and instead went to Erstligakonkurrenten West Bromwich Albion - the transfer fee of 285,000 pounds had to be determined by an arbitral tribunal.

With the change of decision Varadi conjured but his luck is not up, because not only he went through with the " baggies " in the 1985/86 season a descent as severed Table, but had to have a similar experience for his next stop Manchester City from October 1986 when he again passed from the first league after the season 1986/87. Varadi remained the "Citizens" in the subsequent year in the second division faithful before the end of September 1988 Howard Wilkinson steered him a second time to Sheffield Wednesday back in the highest English league.

But the return to good workplace did not bring the desired effect. Wilkinson left within a few weeks the club and Varadis relation to successor Peter Eustace was very cool - as Varadi even asked for a transfer release, suspended him Eustace to briefly. Also Eustace's successor Ron Atkinson brought in the Personnel Varadi little relaxation and as these ten months waiting for a bet, he followed in the early February 1990, again the reputation of Howard Wilkinson, who had by now taken over as coach at second division Leeds United. This was due primarily been for the decision, the simultaneous injury from Bobby Davison and Carl Shutt; this was Varadi with Lee Chapman, Mel Sterland, Shutt, Glynn Snodin and John Pearson before familiar faces from the time at Sheffield Wednesday. In most cases, remained his bets but on the reserve team and limited by the rise in the first division, his contribution to winning the English Championship in 1992 with only three inserts was marginal. The decisive phase he also spent from March 1992 Players out on loan at Luton Town, but where he descended a second time from the first division. In January 1993, another short engagement followed on loan at second division Oxford United before he joined in March 1993 free transfer to the third division side Rotherham United.

In Rotherham Varadi was back to old marksmanship and resulted in the 1993/94 season at the Association's internal scoring charts. But he succeeded in the following year, not more, to confirm these benefits and after he was displaced more and more by Bobby Davison in the spare roll, he moved in August 1995 to Mansfield Town in the fourth league. There, however, he played only one game and after just 21 days, he joined in September the semi-professional club Boston United as player and Kotrainer by Mel Sterland to. But even there it did not keep him long, for on 29 September 1995, he returned to professional football for Scunthorpe United. Within a month he graduated from there again two players per Substitutes before he put the " interplay " and an end to player-manager of Matlock Town in the Northern Premier League was. There he dismounted in the 1995/96 season from the top flight. Further stations were later FC Guisley, Denaby United and Stalybridge Celtic, when he was an assistant usually Mel Ster Highlands. In addition to his trainer activities, Varadi acquired a FIFA license as a player agent.
