The Ingush language (self- designation: ГIалгIай мотт / Ğalğaj mott [ ʁalʁaj mott ] ) is spoken by nearly 240,000 people, mainly in the autonomous republic of Ingushetia (Russian Federation). It is closely related to the Chechen, so that the speakers of both languages can understand each other to some extent. Both languages form the subgroup of weinachischen languages within the nachischen language group. The language is written with the Cyrillic alphabet in 1938.
Linguistic characteristics
The Ingush is characterized by a large number of vowels and consonants. Among the consonants there are in addition ejective uvular and also Pharyngale.
It is a Ergativsprache with a total of 8 case, also the language provides a system of six noun classes.
At the verb, the grammatical categories tense, aspect, mood, number, and class are marked, but not a person.
