The Inner City Bypass ( ICB) is an urban motorway in Brisbane in the southeast of the Australian state of Queensland. The 4.5 km long bypass is located northwest of the city center. It connects the Pacific Motorway ( also M3) and the Go Between Bridge in the southwest on the Hale Street with the Kingsford Smith Drive (S25 ), the Clem Jones Tunnel ( M7 ) and the Lutwyche Road ( A3) to the northeast. On most of the way he follows the Exhibition Railway Line.

The southwestern part of the ICB to the intersection with the Horace Street was designated as M3.

The city motorway cost AU $ 220 million, is expanded to six lanes, has 4 tunnels and 18 bridges and was the largest infrastructure project in Queensland for decades. The use is free of charge.

The ICB, whose construction was commissioned by the City Council of Brisbane in order, is considered one of the most successful road projects in the city. It was completed well ahead of schedule, stayed within budget and is today one of the busiest streets in Brisbane. There are long traffic jams on the lanes towards Hale Street, which has resulted in the population to the nickname of Inner City Car park at peak times.

Construction

The ICB was established in three phases:

  • Level 1 - Hale Street to Campbell Street ( completed in November 2001)
  • Level 2 - Campbell Street to Abbotsford Road ( completed in February 2002)
  • Level 3 - Abbotsford Road to Kingsford Smith Drive ( completed in July 2002)
