Ipswich (Queensland)

Ipswich is a town in the Australian state of Queensland and is located inland about 40 km southwest of Brisbane at the Bremer River. The city is also a local government district with its own administration ( Ipswich City Council).

Ipswich importance was mainly due to the mining of limestone, later also of coal and ores. By sheep farming and the wool industry, the settlement grew to the city and its proximity to the metropolis of Brisbane Ipswich now has over 140,000 inhabitants.
