Geography
Ipswich is located in the southeast of the state and is bordered to the east by the capital Brisbane.
The administrative headquarters of the LGA is located in the district of Ipswich, in which about 2300 inhabitants. History
Ipswich began in the 20s of the 19th century as a limestone quarry and labor camps for prisoners of Moreton Bay. After the closure of the former overseer George Thorn remained in the area and took off in 1842 the basis for the settlement of Ipswich, named after the English Ipswich. Through the lively exchange with the port city of Brisbane and as a connection to the hinterland flourished the place and in 1860 an independent municipality ( municipality ) and 1904 of the City. In 2001 the Moreton Shire was incorporated into the city, 2008, the LGA lost two places ( Harrisville and Peak Crossing ) to the Scenic Rim Region.
Management
The Ipswich City Council has eleven members. Ten Councillor elected by the residents of the ten divisions ( constituencies ). The Council President and Mayor ( Mayor ) is also elected by all residents of the City.
