Ioan Suciu

Ioan Suciu ( born December 4, 1907 in Blaj, Transylvania, † June 27, 1953 in Sighet, Romania) was the Romanian Greek- Catholic Auxiliary Bishop of Oradea Mare - ( Oradea ) and Apostolic Administrator of Fagaras and Alba Iulia.

Life

Ioan Suciu came from a family of priests attended elementary school and high school in Blaj. His classmates at the high school was Titu Liviu Chinezu with whom he formed a lifelong friendship. They made together high school and decided to become a priest. 1925 were both sent to study theology at the Pontifical Greek College of St. Athanasius connection with studies at the Pontifical Urban University. He earned his doctorate in theology; November 29, 1931 he was ordained a priest in Rome. Back in Blaj he became a professor at the Theological Academy.

The brilliant orator on May 25, 1940 Auxiliary Bishop of Oradea Mare - appointed ( Oradea ) and at the same titular bishop of Moglaena. He was consecrated on July 22, 1940 by Valeriu Traian Frentiu, the Bishop of Oradea Mare ( Oradea ), co-consecrators were Iuliu Hossu, Bishop of Cluj- Gherla and Ioan Bălan, Bishop of Lugoj. In 1946, he was Apostolic Administrator of Fagaras and Alba Iulia.

On October 28, 1948 he was arrested and interned in the camp Dragoslavele, in February 1949, he got together with the also arrested diocesan bishops of the Romanian Greek-Catholic Church, solitary confinement in Caldarusani monastery. There he was on December 3, 1949 Mitkonsekrator at the episcopal ordination of his friend Titu Liviu Chinezu.

In October 1950, he was placed with the other bishops in the notorious prison Sighet. He died there in solitary confinement, stomach sick and weakened by hunger and cold on June 27, 1953. He was still buried in the night without a coffin in a mass grave in the cemetery of the poor.
