Iolu Abil

Iolu Johnson Abil (* 1942 in Lauaneai on Tanna ) is a vanuatuischer politician and President of the Republic of Vanuatu.

Iolu Abil worked from 1964 for the British colonial administration. After Vanuatu was granted independence in 1980, he was minister from 1980 to 1984. Later he went into the private sector.

On 2 September 2009, he was sworn in by an electoral college consisting of the 52 Members of Parliament and the presidents of the six provincial parliaments, elected to succeed Kalkot Mataskelekele as President in the third ballot on the same day in his office.
