Jean Marie Leye Lenelgau

Jean -Marie Leye Lenelcau Manatawai ( born 1932 or 1933 Aneityum Iceland ) is a politician and former President of Vanuatu.

After the visit of French schools In 1957 he was elected President of the Local Council of his native island. In this position, he promoted the independence of his country, which received the British-French condominium in 1980. Meanwhile Manatawai had risen to become director of the airline " Air Vanuatu ".

As Vice President of the Francophone " Union of Moderate Parties (UMP ) " he was elected first time in 1983 in the Legislative Assembly ( Legislative Assembly ).

Of 2 March 1994 to 2 March 1999, he was the successor of Frederick Karlomuana Timakata and the incumbent president Alfred Maseng Nalo President of Vanuatu. In November 1997 he released after two years of political instability and standstill to the Legislative Assembly and called for new elections at the same time, which Donald Kalpokas brought to power as prime minister in March 1998.
