Ion Voinescu

Ion Voinescu ( born April 18, 1929 in Valea Dragului, Giurgiu County ) is a former Romanian football player at the position of the goalkeeper. He came to 185 inserts in the highest Romanian league, the Divizia A, and participated in the 1952 Olympics.

Career as a player

Voinescu began playing football at the Olympics Bucharest and was active in various clubs before moving in 1947 to RATA Targu Mures, which at the time in the highest Romanian league, the Divizia A, played. On March 7, 1948, he came there to its first use. At the beginning of the season 1948/49, he moved to league rivals Metalul Bucharest, where he was first-team regular, but could not prevent relegation.

During the following season resulted for Voinescu the opportunity to CCA Bucharest and thus change (later Steaua Bucharest ) to a Romanian top club. He remained the club faithful to the end of his career in 1963. During these 13 years Voinescu was able to win six league titles and five cup wins, but was rarely regulars and fought constantly with his rival Constantin Toma around the place in goal. Only at the beginning and end of his time at CCA or Steaua he came regularly used.

National

Although not always first-choice goalkeeper at the club came Voinescu 1949-1962 to 22 games for the Romanian national football team. He made his debut on October 23, 1949 against Albania. In 1952 Voinescu was in the squad for the Olympic Games in Helsinki and came in the game against the eventual Olympic champion Hungary used.

Career as a coach

After the end of his active career Voinescu worked in various positions at Steaua Bucharest, primarily as a trainer in the children and youth. As goalkeeper coach, he trained, among others, Helmuth Duck Adam, Vasile Iordache, Dumitru Dumitru Moraru and Stângaciu. Later he coached AS Armata Tirgu Mures and Sfântu Gheorghe. End of the 1980s, he retired from football business.
