Isaac da Costa

Isaäc da Costa ( born January 14, 1798 in Amsterdam, † April 28, 1860 ) was a Dutch poet and writer - he was a leading figure in the conservative- Calvinist group " Reveil movement".

Life

Isaäc da Costa was the son of a respected and wealthy, originating from Portugal, expelled by the Inquisition Sephardi merchant and banking family. His first poetic experiments drew the attention of the poet Willem Bilderdijk ( "Father of the Reveil ," a revivalist movement ) on it, which has since his further education supervised and soon in friendly intercourse occurred with him. Since 1817, Costa went to complete his studies in Leiden, while also Bilderdijk moved. After 1818, he graduated as Doctor of Laws and Doctor of Philosophy 1821, he settled in 1822, together with Abraham Capadose, a relative and friend from university baptized.
