Isaac Stern
Isaac Stern ( born July 21, 1920 in Kremenez, Ukraine; † 22 September 2001 in New York) was one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century and in his time one of the most sought after musicians in the world.
Life
1921 were his parents, Solomon and Clara Stern, emigrated to the United States, where he grew up. The mother had studied singing at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and gave Isaac from the age of seven piano lessons. When a boy in the neighborhood, he heard playing the violin, and the violin was his instrument. With the support of a patron he attended the Conservatory in San Francisco and studied with Robert Pollack and Naum Blinder. He debuted in 1936 with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra under Pierre Monteux with the third violin concerto by Camille Saint- Saëns. Awards
1982 Stern was awarded the Léonie Sonning Music Prize. In 1987 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award. 1992 presented him with U.S. President George HW Bush the Presidential Medal of Freedom ("The Presidential Medal of Freedom" ), the highest civilian award in the United States.
