İsmail Hakkı Karadayı

İsmail Hakkı Karadayı (* 1932 in Çankırı, Çankırı Province ) is a retired Turkish general who was most recently 1994-1998 Chief of General Staff ( Genelkurmay Başkanı ) of the Turkish Armed Forces ( Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri ).

Life

After attending military school ( Harp Okulu ) he completed 1951-1953 the air defense school ( Uçaksavar Okulu ) and then found uses in various units of artillery. In 1963 he first visited the Military Academy ( Harp Akademisi ) and 1967, the Academy of the Armed Forces ( Silahlı kuvvetler Akademisi ). After that, he worked as chief of staff, a lecturer at the Military Academy, and military attaché in the Middle East. This was followed by uses as a transport officer of a regiment and a section chief for planning principles and the General Staff of Turkey.

After 1975 he studied at the Academy for National Security (Milli Güvenlik Akademisi ) graduated in 1977 he was promoted to brigadier general and appointed Vice Chief of the Army Office before he was commander of a motorized infantry brigade in the port. After his promotion to major general in 1981, he was commander of a division in North Cyprus and was then between 1983 and 1985 head of the personnel department on the staff of Land Forces ( Türk Kara Kuvvetleri ). In 1985, the transport of Karadayı to lieutenant general and as such he was in the following years the Commanding General of various corps. Most recently, he was on 30 August 1989 to 31 December 1990 Chief of Staff of the Land Forces.

On January 1, 1991, he was promoted to General and appointed as the successor of Muhittin Fisunoğlu to the commander of the 1st Army. On August 30, 1993 he again General Muhittin Fisunoğlu, this time as commander in chief of the land forces.

A year later he was in 1994 succeeded General Doğan Güreş as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces on August 30. In this time of KDP - PUK Conflict ( Partiya Demokrata Kurdistanê ) of Masud Barzani and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan fell between the Democratic Party of Kurdistan ( Kurdistan Yaketi Niştimanî ) of Jalal Talabani. After four years in office, he was transferred on 30 August 1998 to retire and replaced by General Hüseyin Kivrikoglu, who also was previously commander in chief of the land forces.

During his long military career, he has won several awards and was honored among others, the Legion of Merit and the commander dignity of the Legion of Honour. In addition, he serves as a member of the Board of Trustees, which was founded in 1998 Haliç Üniversitesi in Istanbul and as a member of the Academic Council, which was founded in 1992 Mustafa Kemal Üniversitesi in Hatay.

On January 3, 2013 Karadayı was arrested for his alleged involvement in the military coup of 1997.
