Ivan FÃla
Ivan Fíla, even Ivan Fila, (* in Prague) is a Czech film director, screenwriter and film producer.
Life
Fíla, who came in 1977 from Czechoslovakia in the Federal Republic of Germany, studied directing and screenwriting in Cologne. Then he began to turn documentary and short films before he gave in 1996 with the film Lea made his feature film debut. Lea had the Venice Film Festival Premiere and won the OCIC Award there. In addition to other international film awards, including two Czech Lions, Lea was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film for the Golden Globe Awards, and Best Young Film at the European Film Awards. Lea Fíla opened the door to Hollywood, where he re- wrote the screenplay for The Betty Schimmel Story on behalf of Steven Spielberg.
Had his movie Prince of Thieves 2004 at the Moscow Film Festival Premiere and won, among others, the Prix d'Or for Best European Screenplay, as well as a total of four Bohemian lion. Prince of Thieves was also the Oscar nomination Slovakia for the Best Foreign Language Film.
In addition to feature films Fíla also shot documentaries like " Vaclav Havel - A Bohemian fairy tale ", " Hitler - the extortionists " or " Joschka Fischer" that were broadcast including in ZDF and ARTE. He is currently working on his English-language cinema project "Bella Luna", a romantic comedy.
Fíla lives in Frankfurt, Los Angeles and Prague.
