Ivan Kapitanets

Ivan Matveyitch Kapitanez (Russian: Иван Матвеевич Капитанец; born January 10, 1928 Vorwerk Nekljudowka, Rostov Oblast ) is a Soviet- Russian fleet admiral.

Life

Kapitanez began his career in 1946 in the Soviet naval fleet. He graduated in 1950, the Red Banner Caspian Officer College of the naval SM Kirov, then served in the Northern Fleet as commander of the artillery battle section (GA 2) on the destroyer Okryljonny and from 1953 to 1956 as a first officer on this ship. After completion of specialized courses of the Soviet Navy in Leningrad in 1957, he returned to the Northern Fleet and commanded the destroyer Otrywisty and from 1958 to 1961 the destroyer Ostry.

1964 graduated from the Kapitanez Seekriegsakademie, was chief of staff of 176 ship Reserve Brigade and from 1966 commander of the 170th Brigade of the Northern Fleet destroyers. In 1970 he finished the Military Academy of the General Staff. By 1973 he owned the post of chief of staff and deputy commander of the 5th Marine squadron in the Mediterranean. He developed monitoring and action tactics against U.S. Navy groups and was responsible for the supply security of operating in the Mediterranean Soviet submarines. After 1972 he was promoted to Rear Admiral, he commanded from 1973, the Kamchatka Flotilla of the Pacific Fleet. In 1975, he held the rank of Vice Admiral. He worked from 1978 as first deputy commander of the Baltic Fleet, and from 1981 as its commander. After Kapitanez had been appointed in 1982 to the Admiral, he led from 1985, the Northern Fleet. In March 1988 he became first deputy to the commander in chief of the Soviet Navy. By decision of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated September 4, 1988 of his military rank of Fleet Admiral was awarded. 1992 Kapitanez retired.

He was from 1984 to 1989 deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from 1986 to 1990 and a candidate of the Central Committee of the CPSU. Besides his work as Director of the National Marine Center of the Russian Federation from 1995 he is honorary member of the Academy of Military Sciences and chairman of the Navy Department of the Academy.
