Konstantin Makarov

Konstantin Valentinovich Makarov (Russian Константин Валентинович Макаров; * 18 June 1931; † August 3, 2011 in Moscow ) was a Soviet- Russian fleet admiral.

Life

Makarov, whose father was a locomotive engineer and later became head of a top management of the People's Commissariat of Ways and Communications, joined in 1949 in the 1st Baltic officer school of the naval forces, and she graduated in 1953. His military career began as a commander of the torpedo group on the submarine S- 71 of project 613 of the Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol. After the visit of the Higher specialty courses for naval officers in 1960 in Leningrad, he served from 1963 as commander of a nuclear submarine. In 1967 he graduated from the Seekriegsakademie in Leningrad. As of January 1971, he worked as Chief of Staff of the 7th nuclear submarine division of the Northern Fleet, and from December 1973 as its commander. In November 1975, he became deputy chief of staff of the operational management of the main staff of the Soviet naval fleet and 1981 Chief of Staff. He commanded the Baltic Fleet from 1984 to 1985 as Chief of the General Staff of 1st Deputy Supreme Commander of the Soviet Navy, and in the same year was promoted to Admiral. By decision of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated November 4, 1989 him the rank of Fleet Admiral was awarded. Makarov lived in Moscow since 1992 and was retired. In June 1998, he assumed the role of Chairman of the Higher Attestierungskommission, whose task is the recognition of the state exams by graduates of Seekriegsakademie.

After his death, Makarov was buried in the cemetery Trojekurowo. He died of a heart valve surgery after formation of a thrombus.

Three years after the death of his first wife, with whom he has a son, Makarov married again. This marriage remained childless. His son is frigate captain retired.
