Ivanhoe River

BW

Ivanhoe River is a river in the districts of Sudbury and Cochrane, Ontario, Canada.

The river has its origin in the Halsey Township in the Unorganized North Sudbury District. From there it flows in a northerly direction. He crosses the railway line of the Canadian Pacific Railway, which by Via Rail for the route Sudbury - White River will be used.

The river continues on its way to the north. It flows through the lakes while South Ivanhoe Lake and Halsey Lake, receives the right tributary Kinogama River and reached the southern end of Lake Ivanhoe Lake.

At the Ivanhoe Lake is the Ivanhoe Lake Provincial Park. The Ivanhoe Lake, on its northern shore two outflows: in the northeast of Ivanhoe River ( New Channel) and in the northwest of Ivanhoe River ( Old Channel). The New Channel is the main outflow and is regulated by the Ivanhoe Lake Dam. So the amount of water for the effluent located hydropower plants is controlled. In the New Channel flows from the east of Muskego River. The two arms of the river of the Ivanhoe River unite in Foleyet, about 10 km north of the lake again. In Foleyet of Highway 101 and the railroad line of the Canadian National Railway cross the river of the Ivanhoe River.

Further 15 km effluent discharges of Shawmere River coming from the left in the Ivanhoe River. The river flows in a northerly direction. He passed the rapids The Chute and reaches the Cochrane District. From left the Ivanhoe River takes on the creek Paypeeshek River. He now turns to the east. Here it passes through the rapids of the Three Falls. The Ivanhoe River then turns north again and strikes the coming of the East Groundhog River, a tributary of the Mattagami River.

At the Ivanhoe River is planned the construction of dams associated with hydropower plant at two locations (The Chute and Third Falls). The plans are carried out by Xeneca Power Development. The planned capacity of the two power plants should be 8.7 MW.
