Groundhog River

Groundhog River (French Rivière Groundhog ) is a river in the Canadian province of Ontario.

It has its origin in the located in the Sudbury District Lake Horwood Lake. From there it flows about 210 km to the north, before it joins from the left in the Mattagami River. The effluent from the Horwood Lake is regulated by a dam operated by Ontario Power Generation for the effluent located hydropower plants on the Mattagami River. The river is named ( " groundhog " engl.) after the woodchuck.

Hydropower plants

The system operated by Brookfield Carmichael Falls hydroelectric power plant located 18 km south of Fauquier and supplies with two turbines a capacity of 20 MW.
